Battlefield
Apocalypse
A Battlefield 2 Total Conversion
They say the world was green once. Trees and grass. I've seen the
pictures, but it's still hard to believe. How the hell did we come
to this? There are a hundred different stories, and who knows what's
true and what's not any more? You see, I was born After. Never got
to feel the grass between my toes or climb a tree the way my
granddad talked about. For all I know, he may have been the last one
from Before, and he's gone now, too.
I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. Granddad said that
men always seem to find a way to destroy each other, and themselves.
Seems to me they did a hell of a job this time, and took out the
whole damn planet in the bargain.
I guess we're not any different now, though. No lessons learned.
They say it was a real mess in The Dark, that time just After when
the survivors began crawling out of their holes. The sky was blacked
out by ash clouds, and almost every growing thing was dead. People
killed each other over food, and to hear Granddad tell it, sometimes
they had to eat those they killed.
Wasn't long before folks started banding together. They built
strongholds in the rubble, and they salvaged what they could from
the machines of Before: cars, generators, guns. Eventually, the Dark
passed, and Man survived.
You might think that's a good thing, that it's the start of
civilization again. You might think that the worst is behind us now.
But if you'd ask me, you'd be wrong. You see, these "civilized"
people, they still fight and kill, sometimes for the sheer joy of
it. And some of those who crawled out of their holes in The Dark
came out changed, twisted, mutated into something no longer
completely human. No, the worst is not behind us. We're right here
in the middle of hell. So I roam these roads alone, my car and my
gun my only companions. Waiting...waiting for my turn to die. |
After
more than two years in the making and much anticipation, DoomLab

The Remnant
When survivors began banding
together, members of the civil services tried to organize things.
They quickly found that this was an impossible task, and they stuck
together for their own survival.
Fifty years have passed, enough for at least two young generations
to have been born. The initial Remnant survivors who actually lived
Before clung to their old occupations as a way to maintain their
identity. For example, the garbage men were no longer collecting
garbage, but they retained their identity as garbage men.
Eventually, it became a sort of odd class structure within the
Remnant society.
So the roles passed from father to son. In some cases, with the
passage of time and the general chaos and confusion of the
Apocalypse, some of the roles themselves had gotten a bit confused.
A good example of this is the Kindler. He started out as a
firefighter, but now instead of putting out fires, he starts them in
a big way. Similarly, no one remembers that a postman delivered mail
so much as they remember the concept of going postal.
And now, 50 years into the Apocalypse, these aren't occupations any
more, but they live on as classes within the Remnant social
structure. |

The Reavers
The world saw the downfall of governments and law in general during
the days and years following the Apocalypse. Many groups decided to
create their own rules to live by. The Reavers weren't one of those
groups. The Reavers were formed out of all the people who were sick
and tired of rules and regulations - a gang of wanton criminals.
The Reavers are considered by all as the Vikings of the
Apocalypse...the fast-running, heavy-hitting, nomads of the
Wasteland. Might makes right with this group - survival of the
fittest. The strongest leads, and he must constantly face attacks
from those within the group who wish to dethrone him.
As a predatory, highly mobile group, the Reavers don’t typically
settle in one place. Instead, they are constantly on the move,
attacking settlements, pillaging what they need for survival, raping
what they need for pleasure, and destroying everything else,
especially anyone or anything that stands in the way of what they
consider 'progress'. Then it's on to the next place.
They favor fast vehicles rather than heavily armed or armored ones,
mostly muscle cars and motorcycles. Their weapons are simple, but
effective and mean, and they won't hesitate in using them to kill
for a tank full of gas. |

The Keepers
The Keepers were formed by scientists
and engineers who survived The Dark. They believe apocalyptic events
are what spur evolution, such as when the dinosaurs were wiped out
and Man rose to dominance. They see this apocalypse as the next step
in Man’s evolution. It is a chance to cull the herd, and only the
strongest, most advanced of our species should and will survive. To
that end, their army of Purifiers aggressively seek out those that
they deem inferior (which is basically everyone) and seek to destroy
them. They are not wild and vicious like The Reavers, but instead
are cold and purposeful. They don’t seek combat for the enjoyment of
it. Rather, they see this as a necessary evil to move mankind
forward. They are the most technologically advanced of the factions,
using their knowledge to build their own unique weapons and
vehicles. |

The Damned
After The Dark, when people crawled
out of their holes, some came out twisted and deformed, mutated by
the radiation. And not just their bodies were affected, but also
their minds. Many of those mutants banded together, and the other
groups branded them as The Damned. They are psychotic, and their
only goal seems to be to cause as much terror and wanton destruction
as possible. They are a leather-clad, pierced, tattooed freakshow,
an S&M nightmare. No one really understands how they function in any
sort of society, but they apparently do. In battle, they are like
bezerkers, charging into the fray with no concern for their own
safety. They will attack any other group on sight, even if they are
clearly outnumbered and outgunned. They linger in the dark places -
holes and tunnels, basements and caves. They are known to dismember
their fallen foes, and it's said that they practice hideous, evil
rites with the remains.
